It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother. Mom suffered two strokes and after a brief period of time, passed away peacefully in hospital, at the age of 90 years. At that time she was supported by family and friends.

Doreen was born in Edmonton, AB. As the daughter of a CNR railway man, she grew up in Edmonton, Prince Rupert and Winnipeg, finally settling back in Edmonton. While attending the University of Alberta she met and married her husband, John. Three sons were next; Ralph, Michael and Glenn. Her family was always her first priority.

Doreen had a lifelong love of music, particularly the piano. She was awarded an ARCT (Piano) from the Royal Conservatory of Music. As a mature student, mom completed her Bachelor of Education degree and became a music teacher. A favorite time in mom’s life was when our family lived in Ceylon (Sri Lanka). Her travels continued with several family trips to England and as support for dad’s worldwide tours. She treasured her time with her five grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Ralph (Ann), Glenn (Carole); grandchildren Sean (Sarah), Ben, Kyle (Elizabeth), Travis and Madison (Nathan); great grandchildren, Clark, Leo, Parker, Cooper and Kate; siblings, Alan (Barb) and Carolyn (Tom); brother-in-law, Ken, sister-in-law, Else; nieces/nephews, Keith (Jackie), Kelsy (Jeff), David, Leah, Sarah (Craig), Josh (Jenny) and Chris (Valentina).

Doreen was predeceased by her husband, John (2001); son, Michael (2019); brother-in-law, Michael (2001); and sister-in-law Anne (2020).

A private family celebration will be held in the near future. Cremation has taken place.

Our family would like to express our gratitude to staff at the University of Alberta Hospital (Neurology and Stroke Units and numerous other health care professionals), staff at Park Place Extended Care and mom’s special companion, Janis Dow.

Arrangements entrusted to Foster & McGarvey Edmonton South.
