Joan please accept the condolences of my wife Margaret and myself. I knew Bob for many years when both of us were actively engaged in teaching and research at the University of Alberta. His field was in organic chemistry while mine was in health economics and in municipal finance. Interestingly enough our closest contact occurred when we both served on the board of the Canadian Club of Economics. Bob was the Past President when I was the President . Bob spent many hours mentoring each new president and helping the Board strengthen the Club. The day beforeBbob passed away we had a lengthy chat most of which was centered around Canadian club activities. Bob was a great Canadian. He will be missed; however, he set the standard future presidents of the Canadian Club of Edmonton will strive to emulate.

Dear Joan and family: We regret that we won't be able to make it to the Faculty Club on Saturday. We have shared many of the same experiences- the maturing of the U of A, and of the science community, the building of the Unitarian Church, the changes in our city . Those memories remain, and they mean a lot to us. We last talked to you both in September, at the dinner for the Aggies of '65, when we enjoyed Bob's friendly humor. Bob had a steadiness and wisdom, that were part of his personality. That's how we will remember him.

Deepest condolences to the family from Vesna and Rastko Vukov. I will always remember Dr. Crawford not only as my wise thesis supervisor, but also someone who shared his deep love for Canada and Alberta with all of his many international graduate students. I will never forget many gatherings in Crawford's house for Christmas and other occasions, that made it easier for many of us, far from our homes, to feel less alone. I remember especially Linda who was four at the time kissing each of us good-night in her pyjama. So sad to say good-by to great teacher and proud Canadian. Vesna

It was a privilege for me to work as a volunteer on a community board with Bob when I first moved to Edmonton. He was a fantastic mentor and support to me and other fledgling board members. His wisdom along with his exceptional background with the university and related associations offered unique perspective in so many situations ... and, of course, there was Bob's sense of humour. We all enjoyed working together and appreciated his generous continuing support in so many ways over these many years. He will be sorely missed but I will always celebrate his lasting influence. For you and your family, Joan, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I wish you peace and a flood of memories that eventually celebrate a wonderful life..

Joan, My deepest condolences to you and the children. I so appreciated the Christmas dinners you hosted for Dr.Crawford's graduate students back in the early 1970's. Dr. Crawford was a wonderful teacher. Sincerely, Rosemary O'Donnell

Sincere condolences from the Schultz family on the loss of Dr. Crawford. He was a remarkable man who made a lasting mark on the world with his impressive intellect and strength of character. We remember him with fondness as the patriarch of the Crawford clan, and as a kind and caring figure in our lives in Edmonton.

BOB was a great neighbor! He was the kind of neighbor anyone would like to have; he and Joan have organized summer gatherings for all families in the street, Canada day celebration for the kids, etc... and Bob had always something to say to every one. His interests were vast, and he had demonstrated genuine interest on what everyone was doing in life. From showing me how to pollinate my plum tree (we did it!) to discussing organic chemistry, Bob was a very knowledgeable individual! His last walk across the street was aa dangerous adventure, just to lend me a book, 2 weeks before he passed away. He was ready, and it is comforting for us friends and family to know that! He lived a great life, and left a great legacy! May God bring peace (that one that "surpasses all understanding!)" and comfort to his lovely family!

Bob was a friend and university colleague, although as an historian I could not possibly understand his research. We served together on the Board of Governors and later with the Devonian Gardens. We even curled in the same league. More recently, we have both been members of a group of 'grey beards' who meet from time to time. I was always in awe and envious of the range and depth of Bob's knowledge on the most unlikely topics. I shall miss his warm, cheery, friendship.
