Condolences
Betty had a positive attitude - always ready to listen and do what was needed- lovely qualities of friendship. I have known Betty from about the early 1960s as she was part of a hiking group to which my mother-in-law belonged; and then we were both part of a "sewing club" that grew out of the hiking group. The sewing club met for many years (can't remember whether it was every two weeks, or monthly) but my participation lagged near the turn of the century. That phrase makes a person sound old - but I guess, it is so. Betty and I were then together again, at a group called Knights of the Round Table, where we met once a week for lunch, to hear a speaker and then to have a discussion of the topic. I can't remember how Betty came to join the Knights but we were both members there for many years - until Betty had to leave her apartment to live in a Senior's complex across town and could no longer attend due to transportation difficulties. We used to ride the C train together, from her place on the North Hill to downtown and back, and thus had more chance to continue discussions from the meeting. Betty was always involved and interested; and, even after she couldn't attend or when she moved to Edmonton, she would often phone just to keep in touch. She remained a part of people's lives even if she could not be there in person - and that is still true.

My husband Bob and I were sorry to learn our dear friend Betty passed away. We have fond memories of our visits with Betty. We appreciated her sense of humour and enjoyed a laugh whenever we got together. Our last visit with Betty was at Staywell Manor and unfortunately when Betty moved to Edmonton we lost contact with her. Betty was an inspiration to anyone she met throughout her life. We always enjoyed hearing stories of her hiking days in the Rocky Mountains, and her interest of exploring other parts of the world. She was interested in our winter holidays to Mexico and asked about the various birds and plants that thrived in this part of the world. She loved nature and shared her love of bird watching with us. At Christmas time I always gave Betty a box of homemade baking and when I arrived at her door, she had classical or jazz music playing. She always said it was important to make time for tea and good conversation with family and friends. I was grateful that after my mom passed away, Betty kept in touch with me and Bob.
