Condolences
How do you send a message that encompasses the many wonderful memories and feelings you have for such an amazing individual? Jim came in as the GM of a radio station I had just started working for. The usual chaos of a takeover existed, but he laughed and chortled his way through it all - well, at least most of it. Within a few months of him being at the helm, I was put into the sales manager's position, and we spent many, many hours trying to figure out how to get from here to there. Mike LeBlanc made up the 3rd part of the trio as program director, and we spent years working together as a team. We held greased kid pig chases at the first of July celebrations, changed formats on stations, introduced new logos - rode through the good times and the bad. On a regular basis we 'fired' each other or addresses each other as 'you Jerk', but the respect and friendship ran deep. Even after the property was sold and we went our different ways, we kept in touch - not as often as we would have liked to - but we did keep in touch. I will miss Jim in my life, but always treasure his memory. It's your turn now Jim - Keep flying high..

I was first introduced to Jim by his sister, Brenda, in the spring of 1961. I was 13 years old and Brenda had invited me to the CKRD broadcasting room to watch Jim do his stuff as a DJ. Jim took great pride in showing how the station worked along with the most amazing library of records! At the end of the broadcast day we watched as he closed the station for the night and helped him sweep the floors and take out the trash. It was really wonderful to see such enthusiasm Jim had for his work. I fondly remember him DJ'ing many school dances and keeping up a great dialogue for all the school kids.
My wife, Annabelle, and I were able to renew acquaintances with Jim Christmas 2010 at hi niece - Kathy's home and we spent a very enjoyable evening with all.

Jim hired me to come work up in Fort St John...although I only stayed there for about 8 months, I will have nothing but the fondest memories of Jim. His enthusiasm and good natured spirit is something I will always remember and treasure, along with that booming smooth voice. RIP Jim...thanks for the memories.

I am so very sorry to learn of Jim's passing. Mr. Elliot was very special and very important to me. You always think that the people important to you will always be there...like the sun and the moon and the stars and it it always difficult to learn of their passing. I am compelled to let you know how much Jim meant to me and the others who were outside his home and his family. Jim Elliot left behind many people who owe their careers to him....and their success. When Jim ruled the airwaves at CJCA in Edmonton I adored listening to him. He was my radio hero. I got my first taste of radio when I was 12 and had won a Father's Day radio prize package from CJCA. I went to the lumber store to collect the prize and Jim was on location. I got to talk on the radio and he laughed and hugged me at the end of the interview and told me I was better at it than he was and that I should become a radio announcer. Years later when I was at Radio School at NAIT Jim was a guest instructor. I was able to relate our history to him. He was thrilled. I can say I was thrilled and grateful to know him. Jim Elliot. The man responsible for me on the radio. A great man and a great Canadian Radio Legend. I think it is important that, although you lost Jim far too soon, you understand that he did leave behind many talented radio announcers who are indebted to him. Jim Elliot created a legacy of people who would not be who they are if it wasn't for him.

I worked with Jim at CJCA and have known him for many, many years. What a loss for anyone who knew him. My daughter, Shannon Van Heel and I pass on our sincerest condolences to the the family at this difficult time.

It was Sunday night I received the news of my long time friend Jim passing. A flood of memories of our many years together in developing our broadcast skills beginning in Red Deer in the mid 60's. Between water skiing, and a healthy appreciation for many activities including the odd social outings, Jim and I worked and played together in a number of radio stations from Red Deer to Lethbridge. Jim was a standout actor back in 1979 when we travelled to Winnipeg for the Dominion Drama Festival presenting the "Mad Woman of Chaillot". We did other stints with Lethbridge Musical Theatre and Playgoers of Lethbridge. We shared much laughter and love of life as he was such a joy for so many of us to be around. Over the years we always managed to stay in touch by various means recalling the great times we had and the wonderful personalities that we worked with in radio. The likes of Bob Lang, Bill Matheson and so many others who were instrumental in shaping our careers and lives. I will always cherish the many special moments and laughs we have had over the 45+ years of friendship. Thanks for the memories and friendship..I will always cherish them.
