Obituary

On Tuesday March 13, 2018 at 6:25pm, June Marie Regan of Edmonton Alberta, passed away peacefully at the age of 73. June is survived by her loving grandson Nigel, her daughters Jeanne (Brad) and Jill, (Dave), her sister Donna, many nieces and nephews and her dog Tenzin.

June was born on June 10, 1944 in Stratford Ontario to Jeanne Elizabeth Caldwell and John Patrick Regan. June was the youngest of two children and is predeceased by both her parents and her brother in law, Tom Gregory.

While living with her family in Ottawa, and taking care of her two young daughters, June pursued her education in accounting, at Carleton University. In the mid 1970's, after moving to Edmonton with her family, June worked at the University of Alberta in the Faculty of Clothing and Textiles as a bookkeeper.

In 1991, June sought out further education and completed a Computer Systems Technology program from the Northern Institute of Technology. From 1999 to 2005, June worked as a system analyst for EPCOR . She later ran her own business, Souter & Regan Computer Consultants Ltd. June was a fighter and a trailblazer for her day. June loved the challenge her work provided. She excelled in a field that few women entered and earned the respect of her peers and colleagues.

In 1981, June had her first open heart surgery a quadruple bypass. A second surgery, eighteen years later was unsuccessful, resulting in June being placed on the heart transplant list. June's health issues forced an early retirement and in 2002, she received a heart transplant. June's stubborn resolve helped her become one of the longest surviving transplant recipients in Alberta. June fought through successive health challenges with a sense of perseverance and dignity, while fiercely maintaining her independence.

June belonged to the Lendrum Mennonite Church for over thirty years. At Lendrum, she found a sense of community and belonging and many dear friends. She treasured her days spent at Sunday services amongst her church community and her visits with her grandson.

June had a quick wit and a mischievous sense of humour. June left this world in the way she lived stubbornly and on her own terms, always having the last laugh. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered in the many hearts she touched.

June's family and friends wish to express their many thanks to all the staff at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute who have shown such support and dedication in their care for June over the past many years.

In Loving Memory of
June Marie Regan
