Obituary

Rod died June 7, 2018, with his family by his side. He was 83, born in Edmonton, the son of Mazie and Vic MacCosham, the founder of MacCosham Van Lines.

Rod cherished Cory, his loving wife of 57 years; his five children; his eight grandchildren; and his great-granddaughter.

Rod loved food and perfected the art of smoked ribs and deep-fried chicken wings long before they became popular. He was a founding member of the local chapter of the Chaine des Rotisseurs.

Rod relished traveling with his family and always had the latest trailer or motorhome to accommodate them comfortably. He mastered his boat in Florida, and with family and friends cruised the waterways and went on excursions to the Bahamas.

A pilot since the age of 16, Rod loved flying. He delighted in landing his helicopter on the boathouse roof of the cottage in Invermere. He was an active member of the Commemorative Air Force in Arizona where he volunteered for over twenty years helping to restore their WWII planes. He enjoyed going on tour all over the US and Canada in the pride of their fleet, the B17 "Sentimental Journey".

Rod dreamed big and lived big, tackling whatever piqued his interest. When he was finally no longer up to those challenges he loved sitting on his balcony overlooking the river valley and watching his corner of the world unfold before him. He will be missed by all who knew him for his great sense of humour and his spirit of adventure.

Many thanks to Dr. Brahim, Dr. Richards and the dedicated staff at Villa Caritas for their perceptive and compassionate care of Rod and for their extension of genuine kindness to his gathered family members.

The family will honour Rod's request of no formal service. For friends wishing to make a charitable tribute in his memory, please consider the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation where he also received special care, or Stars Air Ambulance which he admired for their life-saving work and skills.

In Loving Memory of
Roderick Virgil MacCosham
