Obituary

BUTLER, Barry Wayne Waynes family announces with much sorrow that he has passed away with his wife, children and father by his side on Friday, October 25, 2019, at the age of 65. Wayne was a native Edmontonian and loved the city and the Oilers too. He worked for many years in the telecommunications industry with Edmonton Telephones, AGT and then TELUS. He enjoyed his career and colleagues. Wayne retired at the age of 56 so that he could indulge in his many hobbies and spoil his wife, Louise. He took up gourmet cooking, photography, continued as an audiophile and catered to a vast array of pets. Throughout his too short life, Wayne was invariably kind, witty, humorous, compassionate and curious about the world and its history and inhabitants. An only child, Wayne enjoyed marrying into the Pelletier clan and spending time with Louises four sisters and their families. He loved all his in-laws to a fault and took particular interest in each of his nieces and nephews. Indeed, family was the epicenter of Waynes life. His laughter and love lives on with his wife of 40 years, Louise; son Cameron of Victoria; daughter Melissa (Sean) Bowie of Nanaimo; darling grandchildren, Olivia and Grayson Bowie; father Peter; numerous relatives and friends. Wayne was predeceased by his beloved mother Elizabeth Betty in 2018. Relatives, friends and colleagues are welcome to bring their tears and laughter to a Celebration of Waynes Life at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, November 16, 2019, at Foster & McGarvey Funeral Home, 10011-114 Street, Edmonton. During the course of his experience with cancer, Wayne often commented on the extraordinary kindness of the many people who supported him. He particularly wanted to recognize Dr. Walker, Dr. Safranovich, Leni Santiago Garcia, Madeleine Fraser, the Crosss rehabilitation team, the palliative care team, Jo Heggerud with MAID, and Margaret and Rayne who assisted with his final transition. In his humble way, Wayne was always surprised anyone remembered him and these kind souls made sure he knew he was precious indeed. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Cross Cancer Institute, 11560 University Avenue, Edmonton NW T6G 1Z2.

In Loving Memory of
Barry "Wayne" Butler
