Obituary

It is with deep sadness that the McLay family announces the passing of John Allan McLay at the age of 66. He was the beloved son of Ivy McLay and the late John McLay, and brother of Bonnie McLay and Brenda McLay. He was the cherished father of Krystal McLay (Jeffery Bennett) and Miranda McLay, and uncle of Claudia Thompson and Tracy Thompson.

John, a Senior Professional Mechanical Engineer and First Class Power Engineer with over 40 years of experience, was well known for his passion and mentorship in the industry of Power Engineering and plant shutdown operations. He was a respected international consultant, instructor and author of Practical Management for Plant Turn-arounds. He was a keynote speaker and chaired multiple conferences around the world, and held international qualifications in Quality Assurance. His background on his path to engineering was as a boilermaker, journeyman and welder.

John was a proud member of the Ivanhoe Masonic Lodge and as an Al Shamal Shriner.

John was a generous spirit with a profound love for his family, his friends and his colleagues. As a Tenderfoot Scout, he was awarded the Gilt Cross, the third highest award for Gallantry in the Scout movement by his Excellency General Georges P. Vanier, Governor General in Ottawa on January 22, 1966, for saving his mother from drowning. He enjoyed being outdoors on his motorcycle, golfing, or completing odd jobs around the property on his visits home to Ontario.

To inspire and inform others, John wrote Cancer Never Surrender, Its Personal an anecdotal account of his years of journeying with cancer and his success using integrated therapies that combined both traditional with naturopathic treatments. Special gratitude to all who were involved in Johns wellness over the years.

In Loving Memory of
John McLay
