Obituary

Clyde Macdonald passed away peacefully in his sleep early on the morning of Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at MacTaggart Place, Edmonton at the age of 87 years.

Clyde was predeceased by his father, Carl Almon Macdonald and his mother, Alice Heridge Macdonald, nee Steel. Although he never married, he developed many lifelong friendships with young and old. He will be dearly missed by those close friends and extended family connections.

Following the lead of his grandfather, Dr. John Clyde Macdonald, his university education began in medicine in Edmonton at the University of Alberta. There, after two years, he transferred to the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and graduated with a B.Sc. Pharmacy with the Class of 1957. As a Pharmacist he practiced his vocation entirely in the Edmonton area.

Clyde was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, Edmonton, beginning as a cradle roll member at one week of age and until his passing. Clyde was the churchs unofficial chief greeter, welcoming both new and familiar faces to the church each week. For many years, he would provide rides to seniors for church services and events in his always large, always clean car.

In his early years, Clyde had an interest in planes and flying and later became a licensed private pilot and a member of the Edmonton Flying Club. In the summer of 2019 after being diagnosed with cancer, he was able to once again get into the air with the assistance of the Edmonton Flying Club for one last flight.

In honouring Clydes wishes, cremation has taken place. On Wednesday, October 14, with COVID-19 restrictions in place, a private graveside service with close friends present was held at Edmonton Municipal Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Ryan Sato of First Baptist Church. A Piper played Amazing Grace as his ashes were interred.

Special thanks are given to the staff and doctors at the Cross Cancer Clinic, Edmonton, as well as the staff at MacTaggart Place, Edmonton for their care and attention to Clyde.

Donations in the memory of Clyde may be made to First Baptist Church, Edmonton or the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

In Loving Memory of
John Clyde Macdonald
