Obituary

On August 18, 2020, Ethne Lindon of Edmonton passed away at the age of 96 years.

Ethne was a force to be reckoned with. Raised on a farm in Horse Hills with all of the early responsibility that entails, her horse Sandy was one of her closest companions. She competed with him show jumping and used her winnings to buy him a warm winter blanket as she had to ride him to school every day. She was very active in the early days of the Lauderdale community after starting her own family. As president of the PTA she didnt want any fund raising to be used for frivolous expenditures when the community and school were just starting out and needed essential supplies and equipment. One instance involved the suggestion that raised funds be used for pictures in the school foyer. The comment she gave was if they want pictures they can have the kids draw some. They wound up with a much needed set of science reference books instead. She was a talented pianist and a great cook. She ran the Girl Guides swim program and taught swimming for many years. Ethne was especially good with white knuckle swimmers. When she needed a house for her growing family she built one (literally). She hired on with the City of Edmonton Parks and Rec and worked at both Eastglen and Londonderry pools. Ethne was mom to the young people who worked at the pool, looking out for them, giving advice when they had a problem or a lecture if she thought it was needed. Once she became aware of a problem or something that was needed she found a way to get something done about it, whether it was having an all weather road put in so the early Lauderdale school could have access to the bookmobile or having badges designed for the little guys that took swimming lessons outside of the red cross. She was loved and she will be missed. As one of her pool kids said when hearing of her passing, the sun shone less brightly that day.

Ethne is survived by her daughters Nina (Al) and Wendy; her sons David and Tony (Corinne); her grandchildren Lawrence, Randy, Ambyr, Eryn and Mathew and her great grandchildren Ivy, Isadora and Jackson as well as all the pool kids she looked after over the years. She was predeceased by her son Pat (Debbie).

In Loving Memory of
Ethne Lindon
