Dear Marcia, Monika, Michael and families, My brother recently came across your family name in the newspaper, and, upon doing some research, found your Mother's obituary. I was sorry to learn of her passing, especially so long afterwards Please accept my sincere condolences. I can still picture her smile and hear her voice. She gave much to the Girl Guide movement, and I was pleased to learn that she was honoured for the many ways she shared her time and talents. Wishing you all well, Sincerely, Marsha (Hall) Degenhardt

Dear Family, Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time. Aunty Helen was a warm and loving woman who always had an open door and a fun household. I am very sorry that our family cannot be with you tomorrow. Love, Judy Krysik

It has been a long time since Mrs. Hawkes kept the Department of Linguistics in ship shape. She did so with wit, grace, and a sense of when things had gone too far! There were the things she did for others, like making a red, velvet Christmas dress for my niece in Texas, and always having a wise, gentle word for those in need of one. She was a tough-minded lady who dealt with life's problems in a calm, efficient, admirable manner. I thought a great deal of her and what she had to deal with. I have missed her.
