Andrew Cupido

In Loving Memory of

Andrew Cupido

Jul 11, 1929 - Jun 21, 2024

It is with deep sorrow, much love and thankfulness that we mourn the passing of Andrew “Andy” Cupido, who went to be with his Lord and Saviour on June 21, 2024, at the age of 94 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Andy was born in Dordrecht, The Netherlands, on July 11, 1929, to Pieter and Neeltje Cupido. He was the second of eleven children, nine brothers and one sister. He immigrated to Canada in 1952 and later settled in Edmonton where he met and married his life partner, Trix Hoekstra, in 1955. Together they had five children.

Andy became an electrician and received his journeyman's certificate from SAIT. Later in his career, he worked in electrical design until he retired in 1992. He also studied music, sang in several choirs and played the violin. He was active in his church and served on many committees. Andy mastered the art of marquetry, creating pictures in fine wood using sawn veneers. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hiking, camping, sailing, speed skating, and downhill skiing. He loved traveling and, on several occasions, traveled back to his homeland to visit family, the city where he grew up and the beloved island of Terschelling.

In 2001, a few years after his wife passed, Andy moved to Victoria, BC. He thoroughly enjoyed the island with its milder weather, walking along the ocean and enjoying nature with its seasonal flowers. Here, Andy also joined the Hampton Orchestra, playing the violin for them for over ten years.

Andy moved back to Edmonton to be closer to family in 2020. He enjoyed listening to classical music, reading, puzzling, watching sports on TV and going for walks.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Peter (Joanne), Carol, John (Nancy), Netty-Anne (Peter), Linda (Brian); nephew, Jerome (Ella Mae); loving friend, Lucy; 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Grace, Fred, and John; and extended family and friends.

Andy is predeceased by his wife, Trix; his great-granddaughter, Maisie; brothers, Peter, Jim, Neil, Martin, and Matthew; as well as Bernard and Jan in infancy.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 1:30 pm at Inglewood Christian Reformed Church, 12330-113 ave NW, Edmonton. For those unable to attend, the service will be live streamed and can be viewed at inglewoodcrc.org. On the website click “Watch Live”.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Andrew Cupido's name to 'Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories', #306, 10430-61 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB or to a charity of your choice.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Emmanuel Home, Capital Care Lynnwood, Touchmark Memory Care, and Benevolence Care Center for their care and compassion.
