Leonard "Lenny" Zandbergen

With great sadness but with much love, we share the passing of our beloved brother and uncle, Leonard (Lenny) Zandbergen on Friday, July 12, 2024, at the age of 61.

Lenny, born with down syndrome enjoyed life. He enjoyed being with family, often the prankster and always happy when he was posing for pictures, cuddling babies, or dancing the chicken dance. Len enjoyed working at steel craft doors for more than 20 years. He also liked going to the Lutheran Church for the deaf.

Predeceased by his parents, Kasper and Grietje Zandbergen; and his big brother, Jilles Zandbergen.

Survived by his siblings, Janny Scharfenberg (Eric), Cornelis Zandbergen (Cecile), Ralphine Rozema (Martin), Kasper Zandbergen (Darlene), and Simon Zandbergen (Cathy); Jille’s widow, Shelley Zandbergen; As well as the many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the Capital Care Strathcona who went far and beyond in the care for Lenny over the last three years.

A family burial will be held at Little Mountain.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Heartland Alliance Church, Sherwood Park.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations for the Winnifred Stewart Foundation.
