Condolences

Sending love to Charlies family and friends. Charlie has been a close family friend for many years. My grandparents loved him and his kind friendship when they visited from Chile and lived with us in my early years in the 80's. My met Charlie at Church and my parents Jose & Liliana Parra visited with Charlie until his last days. They always cherished years of friendship and great company with him. I'm so happy that upon one my visits back home to Edmonton, Charlie was able to meet and visit with my son a couple of times. I am grateful for the love that Joan, Charlie and children have shown my family over the years. Thank you Charlie for your love over the many great years of your life. Rest in Peace with your Joan. Hope to see you in heaven one day visiting with you, Joan and my grandparents. Love, Alejandra Parra Antonucci & family.

Dear Charlie, I cannot think of a time in my life when you were not there. Since our little family arrived in Edmonton in 1964, when I was just a few months old, as our family grew and expanded, moved away, moved back, returned to Scotland, you were always close to us, a dear friend. As a child I remember games of table tennis, the mysteries of woodworking in your garage, Cub Scout activities and ice fishing. As a teenager getting ready to make life changing decisions on further education and career you gave me the benefit of your experience in engineering and because of that I became an engineer, the first in my family, and the result of that guidance and those discussions has followed me and shaped my life the last 40 years. But now you are no longer here, your time here has come to an end as it does for all of us. You have moved on to a better place, you are re-united with your dear Joan, and you are at peace. We miss you but this is not good-bye, it is until we meet again. Love Alasdair

Tribute by Robert Sorley, an old friend (aged 93) living in New Zealand. Charles and I became firm friends back home in Scotland in the nineteen fifties. I lived in Inverness and worked in law at the time. We were both keen skiers and belonged to the Highland Ski Club, the Inverness social hub of winter sports. Charles suggested to me that we might try a skiing holiday on the longer runs in the Swiss Alps; and he organised a planning meeting with two of his professional colleagues who were keen skiers. Charles arranged everything and in the fullness of time, we four met in London and entrained for Interlaken. On the train I met a young Englishwoman, Coralie Hall, and, in Wengen, we became inseparable. I owe my subsequent happy marriage (beginning in October 1957 - Coralie passed away in 2016) to Charles. Charles was our faithful friend and our taking separate paths to Canada and New Zealand and the sad prospect of never meeting again was keenly felt by Coralie and me. We corresponded from time to time --- Coralie and I were very happy to know that Charles was creating a brilliant and distinctive engineering career in Canada. Those of us who had the good fortune to have been acquainted with Charles will know that the world has lost an extraordinarily kind, sensitive and intelligent human being. Robert Sorley, New Plymouth.

I was sorry to hear of your father's passing. I knew your parents, being a neighbour in Pleasantview. When I graduated from U of A (summer 1973) I drove across Canada and was very grateful to be able to stay with your family in Nfld. It was so gracious of your folks to welcome the daughter of a neighbour to stay with you! We really appreciated it. I later became a Scottish Country dancer and used to see your Dad at dance functions. The last time I saw him was at a dance. The SCD community will miss him. Louise Mcgillivray
