Obituary
Passed away peacefully at the Edmonton General Hospital � Old age home, on July 31st, 2015 at the age of 89 years old.
Predeceased by our mother in 1974, Elena de Groot (Meindertsma) and presently survived by his present wife: Ingebord de Groot.
Cherished father of: John C. de Groot (Lorraine), Eelco de Groot (Joyce), Jeanetta Byron (Richard), Gretha Abma (Ron) and William de Groot.
Grandfather of: 2 grandchildren from John namely - Matthew, Sarah; 6 grandchildren from Eelco namely - Tania, Lori, Krystal, Angie, Michael, Candace & Keri; 3 grandchildren from Jeanetta namely - Robert, Kristie, Diana; 3 grandchildren from Gretha namely- Kevin, Leah, Corinne; and 3 grandchildren from William namely - Elena, Kathryn, Nancy.
Great Grandfather of: Davis, Laurel, Caleb, Scarlett, Archer, Lacey, Jackson, Ross, Evan, Cali, Kaitlyn, Matthew, Allison, Kyler, Reanna, Addison, Lexi and Tera.
Predeceased by his parents, Jan and Jantina de Groot, and his brother Cor. Survived by his sisters Emma, Jenny and his brother William.
He immigrated from Gronigen, Holland in 1950-51, settling firstly in Chatham, Ontario and then made his way west, with his wife Elena and two of the five children, with the other 3 children being born in the west, working as a Steam Engineer most of his life, retiring at the approximate age of 60.
The de Groot family welcomes friends to a short service to be held at 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5th, 2015, at Westlawn Memorial Gardens, located at Stoney Plain Road and 163 Street, Edmonton, Alberta.

Immediately following the service, and at approximately 2:30 p.m., Gretha and Ron Abma welcome you to their home, located at 14443 110 Avenue, Edmonton, for refreshments.
