W. Dean Caskey

W. Dean Caskey 1929 - 2019 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dean Caskey, of Edmonton, Alberta, on November 19, 2019 at age 90.

Dean is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Evelyn Caskey (Awid); sister, Carol Gowdy; daughter, Nicole Hudec; grandson, Chris (Sheena) Hudec; Evelyns children, Patty (Dennis), Linda, Cindy, Jeff (Cheryl), and Donald; and the many multi-generational family members from the Awid, Caskey, and Hudec families.

He was predeceased by his parents, Ed and Lois Caskey; wife, Ruth Caskey (Laurie) and son-in-law, Jack Hudec.

Dean was born in Elk Point and raised in St. Paul, Vermillion, and Edmonton. His work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit during his tenured career in the oilfield services sector took him to many parts of Alberta. As a teenager, he worked for Brown Geophysical (1946) and then in 1949 drove for Greyhound Bus Lines. Dean and his father, Ed, entered the oil business buying Red Willow Drilling then formed Wardean Drilling and opened KEY Oilfield Supply as well.Dean flew to many of the work sites, piloting the plane himself. He was the youngest person in Canada to get his pilots license at age16.During his early years of retirement, Dean enjoyed time spent with close family and friends in Calgary, Edmonton, Medicine Hat, Hawaii and Las Vegas. Dean was a skilled conversationalist, compassionate, and caring individual. The depth of his character was evidenced by the friendships he fostered everywhere he lived. There were many happy occasions, often around the dinner table, spent reminiscing about travels and family memories. Deans care and attention for his wife Ruth during her battle with cancer highlighted his family -first mentality, loyalty and empathetic nature. Later in his retirement, Dean reconnected with Evelyn, a childhood friend from Elk Point, and later married. Dean was welcomed with love into the Awid family. Dean and Evelyn enjoyed many travel adventures and a happy family life. Dean was an engaged family man (always smiling!) with a heart of gold. He took pride in seeing grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up from the Awid and Hudec families. He will be dearly missed by all.

No funeral will be held, as per Deans wishes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of ones choice.

In Loving Memory of
W. Dean Caskey
