Obituary

Ian Peacock, of Edmonton, Alberta, passed away on May 25, 2021 at the age of 93 years. Ian was born in a small railway colony called Bilaspur in India during the time of British rule. He completed an indentured apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering and then worked as an air-conditioning and refrigeration foreman. In 1955, Ian immigrated to London, England where he met the love of his life, Chandra. It was a world wind romance and when Ian received a job in Kumasi, Ghana he proposed to Chandra who joined him there where they were married. The newlyweds returned to London via Barcelona where they enjoyed a lovely honeymoon. Four years later they were blessed by the arrival of their daughter.

The world adventures were far from over, as in 1967 the family immigrated to Canada. Ian worked in various capacities with mechanical engineering firms and then joined the Provincial Government. Ian retired from his role as a building inspector in 1992 and enjoyed his post-working years traveling and visiting with family and friends. Ian was a committed volunteer and often noted that he wanted to give back to the community as he was grateful for the help he had received throughout this life from others. Ian was the friendliest and kindest person, who was notorious for telling jokes and spreading joy and laughter wherever he went.

Ian was predeceased by his wife, Chandra; and is survived by his daughter, Melanie (Cam Simpson); grandson, Eric; granddaughter, Miranda; and step-granddaughter, Joely. As well, Ian is survived by many other family members who will forever hold him in their memories.

In keeping with Ian’s wishes there will be no funeral service. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Ian may do so to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

In Loving Memory of
Ian Martin Peacock
