Obituary
Herb was born to Jacob and Johanna de Hoog on April 27,1936 in Hoofdorp, Holland. He was 1 of 3 sets of twins in a family of 10 boys. He immigrated with his family to Canada in 1951 and settled in Edmonton.
In 1957 Herb met Lynn, the woman of his dreams, and they were married the summer of 1962. Over the next 8 years they were blessed with 4 children: Christine, Joanne, Herb and Sandra. Herb's family continued to grow to include his sons and daughter in laws, grandchildren and great grandchildren. This, Herb considered to be his greatest joy and richest blessing.
The highlight of Herb’s summers were family camping trips with his children, and then later with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Herb also spent many hours working in his yard and putzing in his garage.
Herb held various employment positions over the years, always being a role model through his work ethic, along with a deep sense of responsibility for his family.
We, as family, knew we were loved through his words and acts of service. All of us knew he was only a phone call away for help at any time. These generous acts of love were deeply rooted in his love of the Lord. Herb’s steadfast faith allowed him to take up a role within his church community where he served in the office of elder and deacon for many years. He was also a leader for growing stronger families and a just workplace.
His assurance in life was always that he was a child of God and that Jesus was his Lord and Saviour
