Obituary

On February 16, 2021, Peggy Campbell (nee Richardson) passed away peacefully at 99 years of age. Peggy was born in Peace River in October of 1921 and spent most of her life there, other than short periods of time in Edmonton to attend Alberta College and Vulcan, Alberta and Vancouver where Dad was posted during World War II. It was a life typical of small towns of that era. Everyone knew everyone else, and activities were not organized you made your own fun. During World War II, Peggy and some of her friends worked as secretaries for the US Army while they were based in Peace River building a winter road to Norman Wells, NWT.

In 1944, Peggy married Ron Campbell, also from Peace River. After the war, they resumed their life in Peace River, where they raised their family. Peggy worked as a secretary and was actively involved in the United Church and the local Cancer Society. She enjoyed playing Bridge and regularly joined in Dads involvement with local hockey, baseball and harness racing.

Following Rons death in 1982, Peggy became very close with a group of widows who met daily for coffee and traveled together, often to foreign destinations. She relocated to Leduc in 1994, where she was better able to spend time with family. Peggy picked up with a new group of friends, delivering Meals on Wheels and taking in local events. She loved to travel and camp with family and was an avid reader and crossword puzzle solver.

Peggy moved into long-term care in Edmonton in 2016. Peggy is survived by her sons, Lorne (Melanie) of Edmonton, and Ken (Donna) of Calgary, her daughter, Dixie Chell of St. Albert, grandchildren Kory and Drew Campbell, and Stuart, Patrick, and Emily Chell, seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Ron Campbell, her sister, Eileen Skead, and her parents, Charles and Mabel Richardson. In accordance with Peggys wishes and in light of the Covid pandemic, a private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Many thanks to the staff at Venta Care Centre for their loving care.
