Obituary

William “Bill” Bespoyasny passed away at the University of Alberta Hospital on September 4, 2021 after a short stay.

Bill was born in Vilna, Alberta on October 19, 1936 to John and Annie (Kruhlak) Bespoyasny. Bill was the oldest of ten children and left school early to help his mother on the family farm while his father was working in British Columbia.

Bill met his beloved wife Hazel (Pirnak) at a dance in Bellis, Alberta in the early 1960s and they were married on January 29, 1962. They spent the early years of their marriage in Willow River, British Columbia where Bill worked in the Logging industry. They moved to Edmonton in the mid 1970s and settled in the Clareview area.

Bill worked for 30 years at Voice Construction in Edmonton as a Heavy Equipment Operator. He had a passion for this job and was a well-respected employee. Bill’s love of God and strong faith led some at work to affectionately call him “Preacher” Bill. He was always happy to share his faith with others.

Bill and Hazel bought their dream acreage out near Gibbons, Alberta when Bill retired. They had a massive garden each summer which kept them both busy and provided the family with the best tasting vegetables. The acreage was also a wonderful setting for the grandkids to visit and play. Bill, “Gido” to his grandchildren, loved driving them around in the tractor. In 2017, Bill and Hazel left the acreage and moved in to St. Albert.

Bill will be greatly missed by his beloved wife, Hazel; sons, Wayne (Anna) Bespoyasny and Darryl Bespoyasny; daughter, Corry (Martin) Hill, and his grandchildren: Kendall, Annika, Bethany, Evan, Lauryn and Sam. He also leaves behind his siblings: Rose, Tommy, Joyce, Ernie, Marianne, Doreen and many nieces and nephews.

A Private Family Celebration of Bill’s life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, we hope that you consider a donation in Bill’s name to the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, 11220 83 Avenue, NW, Edmonton, AB T6G 2B7
