Obituary

Margaret King McNary died peacefully at Edmonton on September 21, 2012. Margaret was born June 30, 1926, in the family home located on the 105 Street hill in downtown Edmonton. Shortly after, the family moved to 123 Street, just north of 107th Ave, where Margaret spent a happy childhood with her parents Gladys and John Rymer and siblings Jack, Betty and Gladdie. Until the 1930s many summer days were spent at the family retreat on what is now 142 Street. Later, family summers moved to the family property at Whitewood Sands, Lake Wabamun and this continued throughout Margarets life as family and friends spent - and will continue to spend - many happy times at Meadowside.

A talented pianist, Margaret studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music in London, England from 1948-1950, and on her return to Canada she performed and taught piano and organ. She met and married her beloved husband Carman in 1951 and until his passing in 1992 he and Margie built a veterinary practice in Edmonton and then in Stony Plain, where they raised their children Jack, David, Sheila and Carman. Sadly, Jack died in 1977.

Margaret was a community minded woman who focused her efforts on youth and education and recreation opportunities for youth. She helped spearhead the building of the swimming pool in Stony Plain that still serves the community, was involved in the Figure Skating Club, the Womens Institute and with local, provincial and federal politics. Margaret was elected as a School Trustee and served on the Parkland County School Board for several terms.

Margaret is lovingly remembered by friends and family, especially son David and his wife Sherry, daughter Sheila, and son Carman and his wife Averie, and her grandchildren and their partners - Patrick and Alexandra, Brian, David and Danielle, Brendan, Alison, and Shaun, as well as many nephews and nieces. All took part in gatherings at the family home or at Meadowside, including bridge, outdoor dinners at the big orange picnic table, outstanding Christmas meals, and the occasional Scotch whiskey.

Many thanks to the staff on Spruce Meadows, St Josephs Auxiliary Hospital for their loving care over the past year. A Service of Celebration will be held on Tuesday October 9, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Church Anglican, 12116 102 Avenue, Edmonton.

In lieu of flowers, we suggest donations to St. Josephs Auxiliary Hospital Foundation., 10707 29 Avenue, Edmonton, AB, T6J 6W1.
