Obituary
 
The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra has lost one of its most ardent supporters and the gallant gentleman who charmed everyone he met will be missed in the halls of the Churchill and on the streets of downtown Edmonton�s Arts District.

Monte was born in Edmonton on Christmas Eve, the youngest of Clarence and Jessie Stout�s three sons. The family moved to Calgary where Monte went to school, attending Crescent Heights Collegiate. In 1942, Monte joined Coastal Command as Air Observer then was Navigator with RAF Atlantic Ferry Command (1944-1945). He was 418 Squadron Navigator (1949 � 1953) and 18 Wing HQ Recruiting Officer (1953 � 1956). Before the war ended he courted and married Enid Appleton; the couple settled in Edmonton to start their family. Monte was a Surveyor for the City of Edmonton Engineering Department (1948 � 1956) then joined the Highway Division of Public Works Canada (1956 � 1969). As superintendent of engineering and property management for Northern Transportation Company (1970 - 1984), Monte managed shoreline installation projects along the Mackenzie River from Fort McMurray to Hay River, Inuvik and Tuktoyaktuk.

During his thirty years of �retirement� Monte was an active member of many service groups and volunteered for a host of organizations, including the Alberta Aviation Hall of Fame and the Alberta Aviation Museum.

Monte was predeceased by his wife Enid and his brothers Laurence and George. He will be missed by Marcia (Tom Olson), Carolyn (Alex Hyndman), and Raymond (Gabriella); grandchildren Tawnie (Michael Appleby), Lindsay (Josh Woitas), Caroline, Patricia, Donna and Chris; great-grandchildren Marcelo, Skye and Jasper, by his nieces and nephews, and by his many friends and colleagues.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Churchill Retirement Community, the caregivers at Alberta Health, and everyone at the Grey Nuns Stroke Unit.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Old Timers� Cabin, 9430 Scona Road, Edmonton, on Sunday, November 9, 2014.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, the Alberta Aviation Museum or the Salvation Army.
