Patricia Jones’ amazing spirit lives on though she lost her battle with cancer on May 28, 2024.

On a sunny day in April, Tricia was born to her parents, Dorothea and Andrew Lawson; and her big brother, Jim. She grew up causing mischief and having fun at her dad’s United Churches in Calgary and Toronto, until she met and married the man who would truly be her partner in every way, Frank.

Frank and Tricia were married June 16, 1961. They started their amazing adventure together living in Ottawa, Toronto, and Edmonton. They travelled the world and had the most wonderful opportunities to live in places like England, New Zealand, and Singapore. They welcomed three awesome children who were always a part of everything they did.

Tricia was the consummate hostess. She could seamlessly host a party for 150, or make a Michelin Star worthy dinner for 4. She hosted Lords and Ladies, and you and me, and everyone was treated to the same warm and wonderful experience.

Tricia called herself a professional volunteer. She had such strong ties to the community of Edmonton, and she had a real passion for helping others. She loved to make a difference and worked with such organizations as the Junior League, Elizabeth Fry Society, Festival of Trees, Cross Cancer Board of Directors, NAIT Board of Directors, and PEO to name a few. She always had a kind word, a big heart, and heaps of thoughtful handwritten notes.

Tricia had a huge heart and a great sense of humour. She helped anyone and everyone she could, often quietly and without fanfare. She believed strongly in the power of a thank-you.

She also believed strongly in the power of fun – she actively found ways to laugh. She could find the fun anywhere, whether it was a game, a song, or an uncontrollable fit of giggles.

Tricia is remembered by her many friends and family, in particular her husband of 64 years, Frank; her children, Bruce (deceased), Heather, Wendy, and Lonny (Wendy’s husband); her grandchildren, Jake, Sam, and Kate; and the dog, Ben.

Tricia’s Celebration of Life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at St. Paul United Church (11526 76 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB, T6G 0K7).

We wish to say a special thank you to the incredible doctors, nurses and staff at the Palliative Care Unit of the Grey Nuns Hospital, who are truly amazing. They definitely demonstrate every day that their work is a calling, more than a job, and the care and compassion to Tricia and her family was so appreciated.

Tricia approached her fight with cancer as she did with everything: with optimism, courage, strength, and a stubborn determination to beat the disease that had returned. To help with this fight we ask that, in lieu of flowers, a Memorial Donation in Tricia’s name made to Alberta Cancer Foundation or to the Palliative Care Unit at the Grey Nuns Hospital be considered.
